Emptying Out The Attic and Check, Check, Check

We are only just past the halfway mark in 2018 and this year has already had more twists and turns than a great mystery novel. If there was a word to sum up the first half, it would be suspense. Tax cuts, trade wars, special counsel indictments, Fed independence, currency shocks, asset correlation breaks and quant losses have kept investors on edge since the synchronized risk asset run up in January. Each day we receive new information and observe the market ‘tells’ to assess whether this information is new or already discounted to help us optimize risk/reward decisions. In this CIO Perspective, Jordi Visser offers his thoughts on the challenges we’ve faced this year from the “information overload”, and the risk we face getting caught missing the important observations.
